Toyota has revealed a range of new hybrid and electric vehicles at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, as part of the automaker's efforts to increase its EV offerings and achieve carbon neutrality across all global operations by 2050. Among the new vehicles showcased is the RAV4 SUV’s first plug-in hybrid version, which is expected to have an electric-only range of 75 kilometers.

In addition to this, Toyota unveiled two new electric SUVs: the bZ4X concept vehicle, which will be the first in Toyota’s new Beyond Zero (bZ) lineup of EVs, and the upcoming Lexus electric model. The bZ4X features a spacious interior and a long wheelbase while the Lexus model will be based on Toyota’s dedicated electric platform and will come equipped with advanced technologies like autonomous driving and an advanced infotainment system.

Toyota also announced its ambition to release 15 new EV models in China by 2025, with five of them to be sold under the Lexus brand. This expansion builds on Toyota's efforts to expand its EV lineup globally, aiming to sell 8 million hybrid and electric vehicles annually by 2030.

Masahiko Maeda, Chief Officer of Toyota's China operations, stated that “China is a key market for us, and we are constantly studying its market trends and consumer preferences. With the new models we launched this time, we hope to further contribute to the popularization of electrified vehicles.”
